Newso is a Birmingham based graffiti artist and painter. His work can be seen on the streets and derelict buildings of Digbeth, Birmingham’s creative quarter, contributing to and engaging the Digbeth community. It varies from paintings and paste-ups of fists with facial features to painterly abstracts, and recently more graffiti productions with the 48 crew.
Newso’s intuitive canvas work explores the relationship between advertising and graffiti, and the struggle for freedom of speech in the public domain. He relates his work to Basquiat and Warhol collaborations where reproductions of logos are obliterated or subverted by naïve mark making. His work is painterly for a graffiti artist, combining crisp can control with expressive brush marks.
Commissioned murals and artworks are undertaken and various prints and canvases are available to buy directly through the artist.
