This door had to be done, the square glass tiles were perfect for creating the grid needed and it was bombed and grimy enough. Perfect for the triangles to sit onto, again I used similar colours to those already there. It was mostly tags over tags and unreadable but I tried to leave the main names up, the tags are what make it work. It was only a quick one so might have to add to it sometime too. Full face mask was required but for pissy corner fumes not the spray paint!

A piece from early 2012, it’s 55 x 70 cm and was based on a photograph of light refraction through stained glass. Haven’t had nearly enough time in the studio this year, need to be making more pieces like this.

More summer workshops

I’ve been doing loads of walls this summer that are workshops but with the lasting outcome of a public mural. So through consultations and design workshops we come up with the concept, the participants get a go, then I spend a while at the end touching everything up. The client gets a tidy looking wall and the local residents/young offenders/school kids, have had an input in the design and the painting.

Not that we had much of a summer, but as always, its been a busy time for work, work and more work.

A recent workshop painting the side of Co-Op supermarket in Lee Hall, 10 kids, 2 days and about 120 tins of paint.

Some of the boards have been suffering, we spent a day puttin them right. One spot the boards were leaning right over and looked ready to go, plus they were at an un-paintable angle.. We’ve been told the council refused to repair them so we got on it.. talk about a public service. Bit of Qryps n Gents stuff from these spots thrown in too.

Finally sorted a joiner for this recent wall. Best wall in Digbeth I reckon. Got the nod for this one over a year ago, but intercrew organization and other spanners in the works almost meant it didn’t happen. Power of persuasion.

Shambala Festival

16 artists booked, fewer showed. We were there to paint 8 floating walls 8ft x 8ft, the weather held out long enough just about, but we were in a constant battle with “free for all-ers” who genuinely thought the boards were there for them to draw cock and balls on or scrawl a dimly lit message with a flourescent marker.. ‘fraid not festival goers.

My main piece of the weekend was also photographed at almost every stage to create this stop frame animation.

It shows the progression of my board from a mess of writing from friday night to tag, throw up, dub, piece and leading onto my more abstract approach to painting, with a bit of portraiture and cloud “life drawing” thrown in for good measure.. I really wanted to get all painterly with a few little acrylic additions but maybe next time.

I like the movement of the background, slobs captured quite well eating a crisp and a few familiar confused faces make it what it is!

Check the flicks for details and a collaboration from myself and Juice 126.. loving it.

Weird times

Enjoy
